SURG 193 - Clinical Externship II 5 Total Credits In this course, learners will have the opportunity to further enhance their practical experience in a diverse range of surgical specialties within an operating room, surgery center, or other surgery-based clinical setting. Students will actively demonstrate their clinical skills, work ethic, and desirable employee traits while consistently adhering to strict standards of sterile technique and placing utmost importance on safety protocols. Through immersive hands-on experiences, students will develop and refine their proficiency in maintaining a sterile environment and effectively implementing safety measures to ensure optimal patient care and successful surgical outcomes. PREREQUISITE(S): SURG 190 & 191

Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate the application of theoretical concepts and practical techniques in the clinical setting, as evidenced by successful completion of preceptor, and instructor evaluations.
- Provide documentation of the completion of a minimum of 120 surgical cases across a minimum of 5 various surgical specialties in the 1st and 2nd scrub roles.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with the healthcare team, demonstrating strong interpersonal and teamwork skills in the surgical environment.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and make informed decisions during surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate safety, ethical standards, and professional behavior in all aspects of patient care and surgical practice
