CNT 180 - Introduction to Programming


5 Total Credits
This course introduces the basics of computer programming and problem solving. Students will develop skills in designing and writing simple computer programs in an integrated development environment (IDE).  Additionally, students will be introduced to network scripting in BASH and PowerShell.  Topics include flowchart concepts, language syntax, data types and operators, methods, control structures such as conditionals and loops, and arrays.

Course Outcomes
  • Understand the fundamentals of computer programming such as how the computer works and how a program is executed. 

  • Use one or more Integrated Development Environments. 

  • Read and make elementary modifications to programs that solve networking problems 

  • Identify and fix defects and common issues in code 

  • Create simple BASH Shell scripts utilizing common Linux Shell Commands. 

  • Learn the Basics of Windows PowerShell including the PowerShell Help System.
