SURG 104 - Operating Room Environment II

This course offers a comprehensive continuation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills development in the fundamental aspects of the operating room environment. Students will broaden their understanding of healthcare sciences, including topics such as CPR and bloodborne pathogens, as well as professional practices and technological science concepts. The course also encompasses perioperative case management, with a specific emphasis on lab skills assessments related to sterile processing and assistant circulator roles. Through immersive hands-on training in our mock operating room skills lab students will have continuous opportunities to enhance and refine their practical skills. Assessment in this course will primarily focus on evaluating students’ proficiency and mastery of the acquired skill sets. PREREQUISITE(S): SURG 103

Course Outcomes

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy by accurately identifying and describing body cavities, the organs contained within them, general terms used to describe body regions, the structural organization of the body, and directional terms related to the body as a whole.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of human body organization, cellular structure and function, tissue types.
Accurately identifying and describing the major structures of the skin, listing the functions of the skin, identifying, and defining pathological conditions related to the integumentary system, and identifying diagnostic techniques, treatments, or procedures used to assess disorders of the integumentary system.
