SURG 128 - Skills Lab Practicum II

This course offers a comprehensive continuation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills development in the fundamental aspects of Skills Lab Practicum I. This course is specifically designed to enable students to acquire and showcase their competence in accurately applying the principles and practices of surgical techniques. The laboratory experience is centered around fostering a satisfactory level of proficiency in safety protocols and aseptic techniques, providing students with the necessary skills to transition to the clinical setting. Throughout the course, students actively engage in various fundamental activities within the laboratory, including case preparation, scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures, preparation of the sterile field, utilization of basic instrumentation, adhering to sharps safety guidelines, promoting effective teamwork and communication, and comprehending the procedural processes associated with scrubbing for advanced surgical specialties. PREREQUISITE(S): SURG 116, 119, 120 & 125

Course Outcomes
  • Demonstrate and practice acquired skills in both the scrub and circulator role in the mock operating room. 

  • Perform selected procedures of ENT, Neurology, Peripheral Vascular, Thoracic Pulmonary, and Orthopedics. 

  • Perform the roles and duties of various operating room team members during the surgical procedures.
