SURG 103 - Operating Room Environment I

This course offers a comprehensive integration of theoretical knowledge and practical application. It delves into the fundamental aspects of the operating room environment, covering a range of topics including Medical Terminology, Professional Practice, Technological Science concepts, and Surgical Technology. The course explores essential areas such as equipment and surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, sterile processing, perioperative case management, and assistant circulator duties. In addition to theoretical instruction, students will actively participate in hands-on activities and assessments within our mock operating room skills lab. These practical exercises provide an opportunity for students to apply their acquired knowledge to real-world scenarios. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, this component aims to equip students with the necessary skills and competencies for successful progression throughout the program. Assessment in this course will primarily focus on evaluating students’ proficiency and mastery of the acquired skill sets. PREREQUISITE(S): BIOL 105
