Previous knowledge is applied in the concepts of reproduction, sexuality, and development in basic care for women of childbearing age including postpartum and newborn assessment.
Emphasis is placed on organizing and prioritizing care of the postpartum client and family. Students will develop and enhance their skills, in patient assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions.

Course Outcomes

Perform a newborn assessment, and peripartum assessment for the childbearing family.
Identify and prioritize nursing care to address comfort needs for the childbearing family.
Address the peripartum needs of the childbearing family including teaching and anticipatory guidance.
Perform safe pediatric medication administration including oral, topical, and injectable medications based on developmental client needs.
