NURS 108 - Foundation of Nursing Theory

Concepts form the foundation of practice as a registered nurse to include safety, communication, cultural responsiveness, nursing process, pharmacotherapy, legal and ethical aspects of care. Provides opportunities to develop competencies to meet the needs of individuals throughout the lifespan. Emphasizes the role of the nurse as a member of the healthcare team.

Course Outcomes
  • Recognize the phases of the nursing process as the framework for clinical reasoning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to conduct and document a health assessment in a systematic manner, identifying normal and abnormal findings.
  • Describe the application of comfort theory and multiculturalism to nursing practice including:
    • Basic pharmacotherapy.
    • Legal and ethical responsibilities.
    • Professional and therapeutic communication.
    • Safety Standards (ANA).
  • Demonstrate leadership skills as part of an interprofessional team to promote desired outcomes.
