In this practical writing course, students build on their sentence and paragraph strengths. Assignments may include summaries, paragraphs, and short essays. General Education distribution area: Communication, non-transfer (this class generally will not transfer to a four-year university)

Course Outcomes

Employ pre-writing techniques to generate and organize ideas.
Improve writing through practice, evaluation, and revision.
Compose effective thesis statements and topic sentences in paragraphs and essays.
Compose paragraphs and essays that demonstrate unity, development, and coherence.
Develop paragraphs and essays with clear and relevant supporting details.
Use standard grammar and punctuation as appropriate.
Give credit to ideas that are taken from other sources.
Read to understand and explain an author’s purpose and methods of persuasion.
