BIOL& 242 - Human Anatomy & Physiology II 5 Total Credits This is the second of two classes designed for students who want to enter professional health care programs. It is a study of microanatomy and functioning of the human body. Content includes the anatomy and physiology of the following body systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive. Laboratory work is included.
General education distribution area: Natural Science, with lab.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of BIOL& 241 , Anatomy & Physiology I, with a 2.0 or higher.
Course Outcomes
- Identify the components of the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems and describe their location in anatomical terms.
- Explain the physiological functions of the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems.
- Recognize and describe the relationship between the anatomical structure of an organ and how it correlates to its function.
- Observe and describe differences in tissue types to predict their role in the normal structure and functioning of an organ.
- Explain the principle of homeostasis and the use of feedback loops to control physiological systems, and how an inability to maintain homeostasis can lead to disease.
- Apply concepts and knowledge of terminology, structure, and function related to each organ system.
- Perform basic physiological measurements and analyze the results to determine if they are within a “healthy” range or indicate an abnormality.
- Effectively use anatomical and physiological vocabulary.
- Follow written and verbal directions.
