YHSC 40 - Youth High School World Issues in Health

This contextualized course integrates social science instruction with instruction focused on health and fitness. This competency-based class allows students to demonstrate skills and knowledge, and earn possible high school credit equivalents in Contemporary World Issues, Science, Health, Physical Education, and/or elective credit.

Course Outcomes

Comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.
Analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.
Access and evaluate valid information, products and services to enhance health.
Develop cultural competence, including awareness and sensitivity to diversity, and the effects of historical and current systems of discrimination and oppression.
Demonstrate knowledge of governmental and civic organizations and institutions.
Engage with governmental and civic organizations and institutions.
Interpret a variety of perspectives from/about the past using primary and secondary sources.
Interpret and analyze visual and quantitative data such as charts, graphs, maps, art and political cartoons.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability in other fields of social science, such as sociology, psychology, or anthropology.
Use technology to research, synthesize, and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem.
