MEDA 133 - Human Health, Disease and Treatment

This course explores the impact and burden of chronic diseases and mental health. Students explore the causes, signs, and symptoms of non-communicable diseases as well as the diagnostic procedures, usual treatment, prognosis, and prevention of diseases commonly diagnosed and treated in the medical office setting.

Course Outcomes

Explain the impact and burden of non-communicable diseases in the United States.
Describe the prevention and treatment methods used for non-communicable diseases.
List common generic and brand name medications used to treat common chronic diseases and mental health diagnoses in the outpatient setting.
Analyze how social determinants of health impact chronic diseases.
Research and present a non-communicable disease including signs, symptoms, etiology, risk factors, diagnostic procedures, prognosis, prevention, and treatment.
