SOC& 101 - Introduction to Sociology 5 Credits Sociology is the study of human interaction. Students study modern society and the influences of culture, socialization, inequality and power. Topics include gender, class, race and ethnicity, conflict, and marriage and the family.
General education distribution area: Social Science.
Course Outcomes
- Develop and use a sociological imagination to analyze the world from a sociological perspective.
- Gain and demonstrate an understanding of basic sociological concepts, distinguish between sociological theories, and evaluate social problems to see how they apply to everyday life and pressing social issues in our rapidly changing world.
- Demonstrate strengthened critical thinking and analytical skills through reading and writing, while integrating ideas and concepts from course materials (including textbook, articles, videos, and discussion boards).
