MAP 285 - The Revenue Cycle 5 Credits This course will explore the prospective payment systems used by key healthcare organizations. This course examines coding and reimbursement; managed care plans; prospective payment systems; Medicare-Medicaid reimbursement and the resource-based relative value scale (RBRVS); case mix management; and revenue cycle management. It serves as a preparation for employment in the reimbursement system setting, as well as for a position as a professional coder.
Course Outcomes
- Outline the process of revenue cycle management.
- Apply the basic language associated with reimbursement.
- Assess various reimbursement methodologies.
- Explain prospective payments and their significance for reimbursement purposes.
- Identify the different code sets approved by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Outline medical necessity in the revenue cycle.
