Legal Assistant Certificate

This program prepares students to work in law firms, law-related offices, including the courts, government agencies, non-profits, and corporate legal departments as legal assistants, paralegal assistants, legal receptionists, clerks, litigation practice assistants, and legal support professionals. 

To earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree, the student must complete an additional 25 credits of general education courses or electives from other programs in the Business Management area of study. Transfer credit from other institutions is considered upon validation of transcript and course work. 

 

Program Learning Outcomes 

  • Apply knowledge of legal terminology, concepts, procedures, and research in family, business, and civil law. 

  • Describe the legal assistant’s responsibilities for confidentiality and ethics. 

  • Prepare correspondence, pleadings, and a variety of legal documents. 

  • Use current computer software effectively. 

  • Anticipate, prioritize, and analyze problems in order to implement solutions.  

  • Communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats, with a legal office team. 

  • Perform core legal office support functions for attorneys and clients.
