MAP 242 - Introduction to Patient Navigation

This course introduces students to navigating and coordinating care in health and human services systems especially eligibility requirements and forms completion. This course provides an introduction to legal and ethical issues that impact health care professionals. Laws and regulations related to the health care industry such as HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, and standard of care are addressed. Students will be introduced to a variety of appropriate starting points that address realistic goals while providing patient support.
Course Outcomes

  1. Identify appropriate starting points and programs to meet the individual needs of the member.
  2. Recognize  patient’s unfamiliarity with computer technology and assist with forms completion.  
  3. Reliably complete a variety of heath care forms electronically and on paper.
  4. Locate and utilize benefit/price comparisons.
