AMATH 170T - Mathematics for the Health Sciences Credits 3 An introductory course developed to introduce mathematic concepts related to a variety of fields in the health sciences. The content is designed at the pre-algebra level (MATH 075 ) to promote student success in mathematics and to develop problem-solving skills. Topics covered include: review of the whole number operations, fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and proportion; signed numbers and operations on signed numbers; real numbers; simplifying algebraic expressions; solving linear equations; geometry; introduction to graphs and statistics; measurement systems (metric, apothecary, and household); conversions involving dimensional analysis; dosage calculations, mixture calculations, body surface area and body weight calculations; introductory solution calculations and a variety of health related application problems. Prerequisite(s): Completion of MATH 065 with a grade of 2.0 or higher, or a COMPASS pre-algebra score of 40 or greater. Course Outcomes 1. Apply fundamental math skills in the role of Anesthesia Techs. 2. Explore math concepts that form the basis for further learning, particularly in statistics
