ANES 193 - Anesthesia Technology Clinical Practicum III

Students experience practical applications of their knowledge and skills by application of clinical skills and work ethic during the anesthesia technician clinical rotation. Students practice job search skills for an entry-level position as an anesthesia technician.

Course Outcomes
  • Apply knowledge and skills from the anesthesia technology program during supervised clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrate basic anesthesia technologist duties, including patient care support, monitor placement, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and preparation of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
  • Assist anesthesia providers with common procedures such as IV placement support, airway management (intubation and extubation), and non-invasive and invasive monitoring.
  • Perform operating room support tasks such as machine checks, equipment preparation, medication preparation, sterilization, room turnover, and equipment cleaning.
  • Interpret basic patient monitoring data, including electrocardiogram (EKG) readings, and assist with procedures such as cell salvage.
  • Document required clinical hours and demonstrate professional performance through clinical evaluations by supervising staff.
