BIR 130 - Advanced Woodwind Repair Techniques

This course expands on the basics of woodwind repair through the introductions of advanced techniques including: tonehole and chimney replacement, barrel shortening, tenon rebuilding and other topics appropriate to the advanced woodwind technician. Additional techniques specific to oboe and bassoon repair are also covered in this course.

Course Outcomes

Demonstrate the ability to install a replacement tonehole on a wood body instrument and repair damage to a tonehole on a metal body instrument.
Demonstrate the ability to install a carbon fibre band and pin in a wood body instrument.
Demonstrate knowledge of tenon replacement and repair.
Demonstrate ability to install a cork woodwind pad.
Demonstrate knowledge of other styles of woodwind pads and their correct usage including, but not limited to; Valentino, Omni, EZ, Schmidt, and, Straubinger.
Demonstrate familiarity with repair techniques specific to oboe and bassoon.
