AUTC 118 - Brakes 7 Total Credits Students learn brake and anti-lock system theory, application, diagnosis and repair based on NATEF competencies through Web-based, classroom, and hands-on lab instruction in a live work environment. Topics include: hydraulic systems, drum brakes, disc brakes, power assist, wheel bearings, parking brakes, electrical systems, anti-lock brakes and traction control systems. Students prepare for ASE Certification test A-5.
Prerequisite(s): AUTC 101 , AUTC 112 , AUTC 117 .
Course Outcomes
- Perform a majority of the NATEF tasks related to content area.
- Perform an inspection of brake system.
- Understand principles of hydraulic system operation including Pascal’s Law.
- Diagnose brake system concerns.
- Perform brake system repair.
- Identify and isolate ABS concerns.
- Resurface rotors and drums.
- Service wheel bearings.
- Understand and describe or discuss requirements for their content course.
- Use effective verbal communication with peers and instructors.
- Interpret instructor feedback to improve skills and content knowledge base.
- Effectively organize and manage their content course work requirements.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and execute time management strategies when completing content course material.
- Operate program required technology.
