AUTC 118 - Brakes

Students learn brake and anti-lock system theory, application, diagnosis and repair based on NATEF competencies through Web-based, classroom, and hands-on lab instruction in a live work environment. Topics include: hydraulic systems, drum brakes, disc brakes, power assist, wheel bearings, parking brakes, electrical systems, anti-lock brakes and traction control systems. Students prepare for ASE Certification test A-5.

Prerequisite(s): AUTC 101, AUTC 112, AUTC 117.

Course Outcomes

Perform a majority of the NATEF tasks related to content area.
Perform an inspection of brake system.
Understand principles of hydraulic system operation including Pascal’s Law.
Diagnose brake system concerns.
Perform brake system repair.
Identify and isolate ABS concerns.
Resurface rotors and drums.
Service wheel bearings.
Understand and describe or discuss requirements for their content course.
Use effective verbal communication with peers and instructors.
Interpret instructor feedback to improve skills and content knowledge base.
Effectively organize and manage their content course work requirements.
Demonstrate ability to prioritize and execute time management strategies when completing content course material.
Operate program required technology.
