ENGL& 102 - Composition II 5 Total Credits This course helps students develop ideas to guide research, to gather information from the library, internet, experts and other sources, and to judge the quality of the information. They learn to use ideas from a large number of sources as evidence in essays and longer research papers.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of ENGL& 101 with a 2.0 or higher.
Course Outcomes
- Approach essay writing as a process which incorporates pre-writing, outlining, revising, and editing methods.
- Demonstrate awareness of purpose and audience as integral to the composition process, structure, and development of ideas.
- Organize information according to a variety of conventional business/academic formats as appropriate to the writing assignment.
- Write effective thesis and topic sentence statements in conventional essay composition.
- Compose clear, precise, relevant, literal expression using correct sentence mechanics.
- Identify and apply appropriate diction that accommodates diverse audience members.
- Employ common rhetorical devices and strategies in order to present cogent and convincing arguments.
- Identify, retrieve, and evaluate a variety of secondary sources for authority, relevance, persuasive appeal, and credibility for use in research.
- Document research sources according to an academic citation style.
- Revise at every level of composition.
