This course in public speaking helps students develop effective speaking skills through understanding the elements involved in effective speech. Students will prepare effective and accessible speeches for a variety of purposes.

  • Explore benefits of public speaking abilities for academic and career purposes. 
  • Recognize the use and effects of rhetorical devices, including identification of logical fallacies. 
  • Organize and focus topics for presentations with research, surveys, internet research, in-depth interviews and search directories. 
  • Use a variety of appropriate presentation aids.
  • Analyze audience to identify your choice of speaking style.
  • Identify cultural influences and differences as well as similarities in communication.
