CST 105 - Central Service Technician Skills Laboratory 3 Credits Students are introduced to and perform some of the basic hands-on tasks required of a Central Service Technician. This includes the wrapping items for sterilization, learning both envelope and sequential folding styles, and proper methods for heat sealing sterilization techniques. Students are expected to identify a minimum of 100 instruments and assemble into surgical trays. Students are given an overview of the proper handling and processing of endoscopes.
Course Outcomes
- Articulate the names and categories of over 150 surgical instruments.
- Explain the concept and use of an instrument set list.
- Assemble a minimum of 2 instrument sets from a set list with no errors.
- Prepare instrumentation in a peel pack correctly.
- Wrap items correctly for sterilization.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills with the customer (OR personnel/hospital departments).
- Assemble Aesculap and Genesis pans for sterilization.
