CNT 290 - Next Level Networking Topics 5 Credits This is a special topics class in computer networking. Students gain familiarity with topics such as additional network operating systems, VMware ESXi/Vsphere, software-designed networks, cloud computing, and co-location and network migration. Students complete assignments using both physical and virtual hands-on labs. The course serves as a familiarization experience for the BAS in Network Architecture.
Course Outcomes
- Explain how automation and virtualization impact network management.
- Compare traditional networks with controller-based networking.
- Describe controller-based and SDN architectures (overlay, underlay and fabric) including Separation of control plane and data plane and North-bound / South-bound APIs.
- Install and configure a type 1 Hypervisor and deploy a VM client in a simulated LAN.
- Describe characteristics of REST-based APIs.
