SURG 193 - Allied Clinical Practicum II


Credits 3
The learner will gain practical experience in sterile processing, labor and delivery or other allied health related clinical experience. The student will demonstrate clinical skills, work ethic and desirable employee traits.
Course Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate acquired skills during hands-on practicum in STERILE PROCESSING for decontamination, instrument set assembly, packaging, operating a steam sterilizer and assembly of case carts.
  2. Demonstrate acquired skills during hands-on practicum in a LABOR and DELIVERY for Cesarean section, tubal ligation, vaginal delivery set up, stocking and decontamination after procedures, as well as any other duties prescribed by the clinical unit.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the Surgical Technologist in the perioperative setting, to industry and CAAHEP standards.
  4. Demonstrate the desirable work force skills, including attendance, punctuality, teamwork and flexibility, to industry standards.
  5. Improve performance and skills in the scrub role through repetition, continuing to move to more complex surgical procedures, to industry and CAAHEP standards.
  6. Perform the scrub role during surgical procedures of selected surgical specialties, under the supervision of a qualified preceptor, to industry and CAAHEP standards.
