MAP 152 - Coding 2 - Medical Coding ICD and CPT

The purpose of this course is to give students practice applying the official coding guidelines to complex documentation. Students will assign both diagnosis codes and procedure codes to case studies focusing on correct code assignment, sequencing and ensuring the UHDDS guidelines and official guidelines are followed.
Course Outcomes

  1. Differentiate between physician coding and hospital coding.
  2. Accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes based on physician office documentation.
  3. Apply correct coding guidelines for outpatient coding.
  4. Design a physician query form. 
  5. Differentiate the code sets used for physician coding and hospital coding.
