BAST 076 - ELA (English Language Acquisition) Beginning Oral Communication Credits 5 This course will offer instruction for adult non-native speakers of English to improve their skills in speaking and listening. Intended for students whose speaking and listening skills were assessed at the Beginning Foundations level. Course Outcomes
- Produce spoken language with general clarity using correct English pronunciation, stress and intonation patterns.
- Articulate clearly and effectively with organized ideas in relation to the target topic.
- Utilize effective word choice, idioms, grammar and sentence structure in everyday conversations and discussions.
- Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
- Demonstrate the ability to listen to and understand main ideas and significant relevant details in various listening contexts.
- Understand and discuss ideas delivered through various media.
- Understand and respond appropriately to diverse speech and accent.
