ABDY 242 - Paint Application II


Credits 5
Students are introduced to waterborne and water based paints. Students mix colors using a computerized paint mixing system and spray both waterborne and solvent based bottom and top coats on live work. Personal safety and refinish safety are stressed. Other subjects include environmental issues such as liquid and solid hazardous waste storage and disposal and hazardous airborne pollutant reduction. Training prepares students for certification in I-CAR Refinish Technician, ProLevel I.
Course Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the proper use of all safety equipment and tools that is required to preform the task of refinishing an automobile.
  2. Plan a refinishing repair, form the prep to setting up the masking of the vehicle.
  3. Select the correct primers and sealer (undercoats) for the color that is being used.
  4. Select and set up the right spray gun for the type of refinishing materials the is being used.
  5. Mix and reduce solvent-borne base coats and waterborne base coats.
  6. Use the waterborne spray gun cleaner.
  7. Correctly dispose of waterborne waste.
