MEDA 132 - Introduction to Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

This course provides an overview of public health and epidemiology. This course uses a public health perspective that views the health of a population as influenced by social, cultural, behavioral, biological, environmental, and economic factors. The principles and methods of epidemiologic investigation and epidemiology and the role in public health are covered in this course.

Course Outcomes

Explain basic principles in public health.
Describe the basic principles of epidemiology, including rates, risk factors, disease determinants, causation, and statistical analysis.
Describe concepts of screening, prevention, and control of infectious diseases.
Analyze the determinants of health from a global perspective, including social, cultural, behavioral, biological, environmental, and economic factors.
Research a communicable disease and create a presentation that explains symptoms, etiology, epidemiology, pathology and treatment.
