SUR 249 - Survey Research and Project Planning

3 Credits
Students learn to do research at county, state and federal offices, title companies, and private sources for boundary, control and utilities. Several field trips provide exposure and opportunities to do individual research and plan survey projects.

Course Outcomes

Identify real property and its attributes from tax maps and other cadastral indices.
Locate publicly recorded documents and maps, including those that are not on-line.
Explain the importance of unrecorded and parol survey data and how to obtain it.
Obtain complete BLM plats and notes in preparation for a survey.
Obtain boundary, geodetic, and engineering data from a variety of sources.
Compile and correlate survey data in a drawing in preparation for field work.
Report on findings in a professional manner.
